Life in our new mountain home

In the craziest whirlwind weeks of our lives, we bought a home and moved all within a short few weeks. We visited in September, put an offer in 2 hours later, and were under contract before we could take a breathe. The home had been sitting for a few months, was originally overpriced, and since the sellers didn’t even clean their home prior to showings or do seemingly any maintenance while they owned it….. it sat. And sat. And sat. We ended up getting it for over 100k under the original asking price. 2 acres & a mountain home with Mount Yale as the backdrop in the most desirable neighborhood of Chaffee County in Buena Vista. I guess God had plans for us amidst the mess, after all 🙂

Our DIY house, as I call it, needs some work. But we’re all moved in and we are recovering from our 2 months of living out of suitcases. Emery had the hardest time, by far, and was really struggling for a while. & I can’t even believe Archie’s second and third month of life were so complicated. He is now 4+ months old and growing well. He’s a fussy baby when not being held, and he doesn’t sleep, like….ever, so I have reached a new level of exhaustion. But we’re managing. I am currently cooking oatmeal while updating this real quick since its been a while. Archie is laying on his play mat. He’ll last for about 20 mins max before he starts to fuss. He sure is an opinionated little thing! Anyway, Ben’s parents flew in a week ago and helped us get more settled, my mom comes in a few days for a week, and then when she leaves my dad is coming to help us tear up the carpet in the house and lay down new flooring.

Things are slow going with me managing Archie and Emery all day and Ben working all day, but we’re so thankful and feel a level of relaxation we haven’t felt in quite a while – to finally have a home in a place we don’t want to leave. The weather is really sunny here, nearly every single day, but it’s getting colder for sure! As to be expected at 9k feet in the mountains 🙂 Lots of winter projects on the horizon.

These mountains of the Sawatch Range helped shape my life in 2015-2019, and I’m so excited to live amongst them.

Some photos of our new home & neighborhood & the kids. We live in the forest, so we have deer daily 🙂
